HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. Is it necessary to charge my video camera’s battery for 24 hours before using it for the first time?

There is no need to charge the battery for a full 24 hours.  Flip Ultra video cameras are partialy charged upon shipment.  You will only charge it for six (6) hours before using it.

2. Can I charge the battery when travelling abroad?

Yes, as long as you are able to plug your Flip video camera to a computer with a high-powered USB port, you can charge your battery wherever you are.

NOTE:  If you are using the Flip Power Adapter to charge while you travel, it is important to note that while the specifications printed on the power adapter may be similar to those of other universal chargers, use outside of the U.S. has not been tested or certified.

3. How do I know the charging status of my Flip video camera?

Once your Flip video camera is plugged into a high-powered USB port, a blinking battery symbol should appear in your video camera’s screen to indicate that charging is already taking place.  To know more about your battery’s charging status, click here.  For more information on batteries for Flip video camera, click here.

NOTE:  Charging may depend on the kind of battery pack that you are using.  If you have the Flip Video Ultra battery pack, you may recharge it by plugging in your video camera to your computer’s high-powered USB port.  If you are using standard AA rechargeable batteries, you will need a separate battery charger.

4. Does the Flip Video Ultra Battery Pack ever wear out?

After a period of time, depending on the video camera use and settings, you may find that your battery provides lesser power which requires you to charge more frequently.  Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced.

5. How do I replace the batteries of my Flip Ultra video camera?

To learn how to replace the batteries or the battery pack of your Flip Ultra video camera, click here.  You can purchase replacement AA batteries from a retail store as an optional power source for your Flip.

NOTE:  You can use three (3) AAA batteries as backup power source for the Flip UltraHD III (with FlipPORT).  However, since this video camera has a higher capture frame rate, it is recommended to use heavy duty types such as the Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery that can last up to 1.5 hours.

6. How do I get a warranty service for my Flip video camera?

All Flip Video products have a one (1) year warranty from the date of purchase.

NOTE:  In the U.S., this limited warranty extends only to products purchased from Cisco or a Cisco Authorized Reseller.

Should your video camera have a problem within the warranty period, follow the procedures for warranty service found in the Flip Video Support page.

7. Why do I need to register my Flip Video products?

Providing product registration information lets Flip Video update you on product upgrades or recalls.  The information you provided may also be used for responding to your requests for certain products and services or communicating with you about special offers or updates and customizations of the content on the TheFlip.com.

Rest assured that your personal information will remain confidential and exclusive to subsidiaries and agents who are employed to undertake functions on their behalf.  Flip Video will not sell or rent your information to any third party companies.

8. What should be inside the package other than my Flip video camera?

For more information about the box contents for each Flip video camera, click here.

9. Can I adjust the volume while recording or browsing?

No.  You can adjust the volume only when playing back the videos.  It is suggested that you take videos within 12 feet from your subject when indoors, and a shorter distance when you are recording outdoors or where there is loud background noise.

10. How do I charge my Flip Ultra video camera’s optional battery pack?

There are two (2) ways to charge your video camera’s optional battery pack:

NOTE:  Charging your Flip Ultra with the Flip Video Ultra Battery Pack takes six (6) hours via USB port, and 2.5 hours via the power adapter.

11. Can I connect an external microphone or any other third party audio device to my video camera?

No, you cannot connect an external microphone or any other audio devices to your Flip video camera.  The video camera has its built-in microphone located at the rear side.  To know more about the different parts of your Flip video camera, click here.

12. What other Flip video cameras has a FlipPORT feature?

The only video camera with a FlipPORT feature is the Flip UltraHD III (with FlipPORT).  The FlipPORT is a combination of an HDMI micro connector and a proprietary 19-pin connector designed to allow additional features and functionality to Flip UltraHD III (with FlipPORT) video cameras.

13. Can I turn OFF the beeps and tones when I use my video camera?

Yes, you can set the video camera to operate silently.  To turn OFF the video camera’s tones, press and hold the Record button while turning ON the video camera.  Once the video camera’s setup screen is displayed, move through the settings until you reach the Tones screen.  Use the left and right arrow buttons on the four-way navigation pane to turn the tones ON or OFF.

NOTE:  When the video camera’s tones are OFF, you will not hear any of the standard video camera beeps or tones.  You will, however, still be able to hear the sound on your videos on playback mode.  The video camera will operate this way until you turn the tones back ON.  The tones setting can be reviewed and reset at any time and as often as needed.

14. Can I fast-forward or rewind the video while I am playing it?

Yes.  To fast-forward while playing a video, press and hold the right arrow button.  To rewind while playing a video, press and hold the left arrow button.

15. How do I adjust the volume of my video camera?

To control the volume of your videos while playing them on your video camera:

• Press + on the four-way navigation button to increase the volume
• Press - on the four-way navigation button to decrease the volume

16. What is the DCIM folder that is stored on my video camera?

The DCIM folder on your video camera is the location where all the recorded video files on your video camera are stored.  If you would like to save these videos to your computer, it is best to use the Save feature in FlipShare.  If you use your operating system to move or delete files from the DCIM folder to your computer, you may no longer be able to view them with FlipShare.

17. How do I reset my Flip video camera if it’s locked up?

For instructions on how to reset your Flip video camera, click here.

18. I have just received my Flip Ultra video camera.  Why doesn’t it power ON?

The standard AA batteries that are shipped with your Flip Ultra video camera are not pre-installed.  You may need to place the batteries inside the battery compartment.  For more information, click here.

For the Flip UltraHD II and Flip UltraHD III video cameras, the partially charged Flip Ultra Battery Pack has been pre-installed upon shipment.

Depending on the duration of the shipment or on how long it has been on shelf, the battery pack or the batteries that are shipped with your video camera may have been depleted.  You may need to replace the batteries or charge the Flip Ultra Battery Pack.

NOTE:  If the Flip Ultra video camera still does not power ON after initial charging, you may need to reset your video camera.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

1. How do I convert my Flip videos into another format other than H.264 or MP4?

You can only convert your Flip videos into another format with a third party application which supports H.264 or .mp4 and the video format you want to convert your Flip videos to.

2. Can I create still photos of my videos using my Flip video camera?

Yes, it is possible to create still photos from your recorded videos by using the FlipShare software.  To learn how to create still images using FlipShare, click here.

3. Why are the videos I recorded indoors too dark or has a lot of flicker?

When there is a flickering, white horizontal line on the videos you recorded indoors, your camera’s internal filter might be set to a different rate than your local alternating current (AC).  U.K. current alternates at 50 Hz, while U.S. current alternates at 60 Hz.  When you use a U.S. video camera to record videos indoors with artificial lighting in U.K., you might get a video that is too dark or shows a lot of flicker.  To learn how to resolve this issue, click here.
